Here at SERVPRO N.Vista/San Marcos. We take our job very serious. We also take our blogs very serious. However, every once in a while, especially when things get stressful as they can in the restoration industry, you need to relax and have a little fun. You need something to help you have a little fun and take your mind off of work for a little while. You need a stress relief.  That is why our office has Biggie. Biggie is our resident office French Bulldog. He belongs to our estimator Sahar. He is awful at filing, can't answer phones, doesn't know the first thing about restoration, yet he is one of the most popular employees we have at our franchise. Everybody loves Biggie because when you are having a bad or stressful day he is always there to greet you at the door and make you feel better.

Mold In Your Home?

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise mold removal and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

Home underwater. Don't let your property drown, prepare for storms ahead of time!

Here at SERVPRO of NE San Diego County, we are no stranger to the damage that can be caused by rain and wind. Here's our recommendation for preventing what could become a huge headache because of a little rain:

Have your roof inspected and if needed, repaired!

More can go wrong than a couple of ugly water stains on your ceiling. If you don't catch the leak it will begin to rot even the frame of your house. When wood gets too damaged by water it has to be replaced. Basically what could start as a little bit of water from a little bit of rain can collect over time and spread throughout the home or building causing unnecessary water damage or mold damage costing you much more than a simple inspection. 

Prepare ahead of time. We are lucky to live in a place with plenty of sunshine, but those few days of heavy rain can cause a lot of damage to a property.

Fire Sprinkler Causes Water Damage.

A fire sprinkler is a very effective fire safety tool; however, it can be unintentionally discharged. Like the recent large loss we took care for a San Diego Hotel building.

After a fire sprinkler was unintentionally discharged on the third story, management decided to call our team to assist in the dry out. With lots a strategic planning and many long hours we successfully dried their structure and get them back to business in no time.

"Like it never even happened."

A typical fire sprinkler head for a commercial system will discharge 20-40 gallons of water each minute. This can be very disruptive to your business and can cost a lot of time and money to clean/ repair. There are 3 practical steps to prevent and prepare for a fire sprinkler system discharge.

All business owners should be sure each and every employee receives the proper education needed to reduce the risk of accidents.

We recently received an overwhelmingly nice Yelp review today from a customer that had a large flood in their home about a month ago.  The customer was so very grateful for our service that they took the time to list and thank every single one of our employees who worked on their home.  It was incredibly nice of them to not only take the time to leave us a review but also recognize every single employee.

So with that in mind, this blog is dedicated to all our customers who have taken the time to leave us an online review or refer us to a friend or drop off something for the staff to say thank you.  We have had the pleasure of helping so many customers that have showed us their appreciation in one way or the other, so we in turn, would like to show our appreciation to them.

We would like to take a moment and reflect on and celebrate the many, many, five star reviews we have received on Yelp this year. We are always so excited to hear of the great experiences our customers had with our team and services. Our employees have been very proactive in requesting customers to leave us positive reviews and in turn our customers have been amazingly receptive to leaving them for us.  Our customers have even taken the time to "shout out" specific employees in their reviews who went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service and our franchise began rewarding employees for being named in reviews.  It has been a very positive year for Yelp reviews for us and we are hoping to receive even more reviews as the year progresses.

Stormy Weather.

Southern California is not known for rainy weather but when it does rain for the few days out of the year, it comes in heavy! We are blessed to live in a beautiful place where the sun is always shining but because of that we do not really prepare ourselves and our properties for the potential damage that a rainstorm can bring. Storms show us the faulty roof tiles, and potential bad workmanship of the home in general. Sadly the only way to know these faults exist is for a rain water leak to show you. As long as SERVPRO gets out there as soon as possible to address to issue early on, it will be less damage to the home and get the home back to working condition quickly.

Your roofing seems fine until a heavy storm hits and you find leaks all over your home. The day is gloomy, you want to stay inside and watch the rain fall from the window not from inside your living room ceiling. An option that a homeowner may have is to seal their roof. Sealing a roof includes options:

  • two layers of felt
  • synthetic roof membranes
  • a polyurethane foam spray (for existing roofs)

When you seal your roof, it gives an extra protection against rain storms.

It is said that the roofing industry has suggested the felt paper as a way to help drain water away once it is behind the roof cover. The roof covering that you chose should be sealed with a membrane that is strong enough to be watertight, will stay in place if the primary roof blows off.
