Mold Found in Your Home or Business?

6/7/2022 (Permalink)

Employees suited in personal protective equipment before mold removal Personal protective equipment is necessary when it comes to mold removal.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise mold removal and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Usually homeowners live somewhere else when their homes is being put back together after a large fire. It's important to get the walls and windows boarded up immediately to secure the belongings inside. When a fire happens in a home or business, it destroys everything in it's path. It doesn't take long for the flames to run through the belongings in a household. It is a frantic experience for all of those involved. The place is left behind with fire damage from the flames, water damage from the fire hose and soot damage from the smoke. The initial fire may be out but the damage left behind is immense. The walls and furniture reek of smoke and need to be professionally cleaned. This is a photo of our ultrasonic cleaner that cleans the hard surfaced items. When solid items such as plates, silverware, decor, etc. have soot damage from the smoke we neatly pack them up and place them into the ultrasonic cleaner for a deep cleaning. Stormy Weather Can Cause A LOT of Damage to Your Home.

3/7/2022 (Permalink)

Home damaged by storm winds and water. Bad weather conditions can cause a lot of damage to your home or business property.

Southern California is not known for rainy weather but when it does rain for the few days out of the year, it comes in heavy! We are blessed to live in a beautiful place where the sun is always shining but because of that we do not really prepare ourselves and our properties for the potential damage that a rainstorm can bring. Storms show us the faulty roof tiles, and potential bad workmanship of the home in general. Sadly the only way to know these faults exist is for a rain water leak to show you. As long as SERVPRO gets out there as soon as possible to address to issue early on, it will be less damage to the home and get the home back to working condition quickly.

If you have a leak or water damage in your home or business, call us today for an inspection! (760) 917-1465

Smoke Damaged Clothing? We CAN Fix That.

Industrial grade smoke cleaning machine for soft items. Our Esporta machine can get your clothes smoke and odor free.

The aftermath of a fire can be overwhelming. Walls and ceilings are burned through. Soot lays upon all the furniture and decor left behind and clothing holds a strong smoke until properly washed. You cannot throw clothing into a regular washer because it will not remove the strong smoke odor. It needs to be professionally washed and our facility has an Esporta machine. We can wash any soft items in our  machine to remove all soot and smoke. Our team understands the attachment that people have to their personal belongings and the fact that we are able to help restore over replace items makes a huge difference in the process. Being able to keep an important original item to our customers makes the process a little easier on them. We are able to save the things they care about most and that brings joy to us all. Lead Removal

1/12/2022 (Permalink)

Lead paint chipping away on steps. Lead removal takes proper requirements that SERVPRO is certified to do.

According to EPA requirements (40 CFR Part 745) contractors must use lead-safe work practices and follow these three simple procedures:

  • Contain the work area.
  • Minimize dust.
  • Clean up thoroughly.

The Environmental Protection Agency requires that businesses performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care and schools be certified by the EPA.

Does Your Property Contain Lead?

Older homes and buildings are more likely to contain lead-based paint. Homes built before 1940 have a much higher chance of containing lead paint.

What You Can Do To Protect Your Family From Lead In Pre-1978 Homes

  • If you rent, notify your landlord of peeling or chipping paint.
  • Clean up paint chips immediately.
  • Regularly clean floors, window sills, and other surfaces.
  • Rinse sponges and mop heads after cleaning dirty or dusty areas.
  • Wash children's hands, and toys often.
  • Clean or remove shoes before entering your home to avoid tracking in lead from soil.

Commercial Mold Remediation

1/12/2022 (Permalink)

Mold being removed from inside drywall. Our employees wear the proper PPE to remove mold safely.

When there is a flood and the water sits for an extended period of time it creates a breeding ground for mold growth. If there is a moisture issue in the building or home due to water intrusion, roof leaks, or poor humidity control, it is important to be aware of the following:

  • Visible mold.
  • A strong musty odor could indicate mold presence.
  • Evidence of past moisture issues that could indicate previous mold growth.
  • Excessive humidity.

If mold is found in the home or building, mold remediation will eliminate a potentially ill situation. Our professionals will look for any signs of visible mold. Following the industry standards for mold remediation, they will work  to remove visible mold inside of a containment built on-site.

Review card of services with all 10's "You all deserve better than 10. Great experience with all your staff." -SERVPRO customer

We love our customers and thankfully our customers love us.

We always ask our customers to complete a Certificate of Satisfaction or a COS, as we refer to them here at SERVPRO of NE San Diego. The Certificates of Satisfaction are very important to us as they allow us to review how we performed on each job.  What did we do well? What can we improve upon on the next job?

The Certificate of Satisfaction included with this blog is from a very satisfied customer we helped with some water damage in San Marcos.  Thankfully on this one it looks like there weren't any lessons to be learned or any areas where we needed to make improvements.  This customer was incredibly happy with the work we performed and even wrote "You all deserve better than 10. Great experience with all your staff," in the comments section.

We are very happy that our customer was satisfied and also very proud of our staff for providing excellent work. Your reputation is everything in the restoration industry.

Fire Damage In The Home

12/6/2021 (Permalink)

Flags blowing in wind at office. USMC, POWMIA, USA, SERVPRO

Your roofing seems fine until a heavy storm hits and you find leaks all over your home. The day is gloomy, you want to stay inside and watch the rain fall from the window not from inside your living room ceiling. An option that a homeowner may have is to seal their roof. Sealing a roof includes options:

  • two layers of felt
  • synthetic roof membranes
  • a polyurethane foam spray (for existing roofs)

When you seal your roof, it gives an extra protection against rain storms.

It is said that the roofing industry has suggested the felt paper as a way to help drain water away once it is behind the roof cover. The roof covering that you chose should be sealed with a membrane that is strong enough to be watertight, will stay in place if the primary roof blows off.

Fire Sprinkler Causes Damage

12/6/2021 (Permalink)

Job site walk Walking the job site to get to work.

A fire sprinkler is a very effective fire safety tool; however, it can be unintentionally discharged. Like the recent large loss we took care for a San Diego Hotel building.

After a fire sprinkler was unintentionally discharged on the third story, management decided to call our team to assist in the dry out. With lots a strategic planning and many long hours we successfully dried their structure and get them back to business in no time.

"Like it never even happened."

A typical fire sprinkler head for a commercial system will discharge 20-40 gallons of water each minute. This can be very disruptive to your business and can cost a lot of time and money to clean/ repair. There are 3 practical steps to prevent and prepare for a fire sprinkler system discharge.

All business owners should be sure each and every employee receives the proper education needed to reduce the risk of accidents.
